If you are currently using version 1.0.x of MyEyes follow these steps when installing MyEyes 2.0.x:
1) Quit MyEyes 1.0.x.
2) Remove the old MyEyes folder and replace it with the new one.
3) Open the "Startup Items" folder in your System folder and trash the alias to MyEyes.
4) Open the MyEyes folder and drag the file named "MyEyes Extension" to your System folder.
A dialog will appear telling you that extensions must be placed in the "Extensions" folder: confirm by clicking Ok.
5) Restart your Macintosh.
6) Enjoy MyEyes.
Upgrading from MyEyes 2.0.1
If you are currently using version 2.0.1 of MyEyes follow these steps when installing MyEyes 2.0.2:
1) Remove the old MyEyes folder and replace it with the new one.
2) Remove the old MyEyes Extension from the "Extensions" folder and replace it with the new one.
Note that you have to do this manually instead of simply dragging the new extension to your System folder. This because you cannot replace a file with the same name when this file is a running application. Experts can overcome this little disadvantage by forcing the old extension to quit before replacing it (a specific utility is needed to perform this task).
IMPORTANT: I have changed the extension's icon to give it a more pleasant look. To let the Finder show the correct icon you have to rebuild your desktop.
DON'T DO THAT WHILE THE EXTENSION IS RUNNING: this will cause it to lose its icon.
Instead, follow this additional steps:
Be sure to trash ALL copies of the old extension.
If you can use a specific utility to rebuild the desktop, do it BEFORE restarting.
Otherwise, if you have to rebuild the desktop at startup, remove the extension from the "Extensions" folder, restart, let the Finder rebuild, verify the icon change and finally (whew!) put the extension back in the "Extensions" folder.
